Season: Winter
Scenario writer: Akira
Characters (in order of appearance): Madara, Kanata, Kaoru

Madara: Well, at any rate, good for you, Kanata-san. It’s not like I’m bragging or anything but I don’t have a single good memory with my mother.
Kanata: try to get along, okay…because your “mother” is still “alive,” mikejima.
Madara: Hahaha. You know, maybe it’s better your mother left.
Mothers and stuff get sooo annoying once you hit puberty, you know?? I’m sure you would’ve fought with yours if she was still alive and by your side.
Kanata: yes. perhaps. but i wanted to have those “fights,” too.
just like an ordinary “mother and son,” like “family” would do.
that’s my only “regret”—i couldn’t get over it, and so i always held onto “this”—
the last remaining “connection” i have to mother.
Madara: Ahh, that urn, huh. That thing’s been empty from the very start, right?
Kanata: yes. mother only faked her “death,” so there was no body left behind from the very start. and naturally, no “ashes” or “remains” either.
it was because of that—because there was nothing in this “urn,” I knew my mother was still alive.
this “urn” was a “message” to convey that. there is no deeper meaning behind it.
Madara: Even though she was the one who disappeared of her own will, she still wanted you to know that she was still alive, huh.
Kanata: yes. “mother” is alive. and she is watching over me from far away—
Madara: She might’ve just forced a buuunch of unnecessary things on us, though. Like the position of God and stuff. Maybe the empty urn was meant to send a message with that type of meaning.
Kanata: my mother is different from yours, so she wouldn’t do such a “mean” thing, you know~?

Kaoru: Heeey, Kanata-kuuun!
Kanata: kaoru.
Kaoru: You were nearby after all! You’ve never been one to move about, having others run errands for you.
Kanata: Well it is an old “habit,” so… More importantly, did you have “business” with me?
Kaoru: Oh, no, it’s nothing serious. Souma-kun is doing a big cleanup for the clubroom, so I thought as former members of the marine biology club, we should get together to help him out.
Plus, the reason why the clubroom is so messy in the first place is ‘cause you just left a bunch of water tanks and stuff everywhere. At least try to clean up that much.
And it’s a little late for me to be saying this but—a bird does not foul the nest it is about to leave!
If you leave something that meaningful behind, the people who are left behind are left wondering if it’s some sort of message and end up feeling uneasy.
You know? Like that urn?
Kanata: …………
Kaoru: Fufu. Good for you, Kanata-kun.
It seems like your mother hasn’t actually passed away.
Kanata: …you told kaoru everything, mikejima?
Madara: I mean, it seemed like Souma-san had already explained the details to a certain extent, so I just filled them in on a bit more.
If they were just left hanging, I’m sure they’d just get curious and look into it themselves, you know?
But as for the urn, I only really explained that it was one of the many items related to the case, nothing more.
I diiid try to hint at the truth to a certain degree, but somewhere in the middle of doing so, it started becoming a pain in the ass to explain sooo…I, myself, have yet to draw any conclusions regarding that matter, too.
Kanata: in other words, kaoru made a “deduction,” and arrived at the “truth” on his own.
that’s amazing. as expected of the son of a “scholar”.
Kaoru: Thanks. That’s the best compliment I could get.
But I do think Souma-kun sees through at least that much of the truth.
That kid’s grown much more than we think. He might look like an idiot at first, but he’s actually pretty sharp, weirdly enough.
Although I do think if it’s something his seniors don’t want to talk about, he doesn’t dare ask out of consideration and pure thoughtfulness.
Kanata: ahh, that does sound like souma.
but yes, you’re right…both then and now, he’s always been looking at me with those “sparkling eyes” of his.
i wanted to look good in front of him and pretend everything related to my embarrassing “past” never “happened”.
which is why “this time,” too, I left the “retrieval” of the “urn” to mikejima…
Kaoru: I’m always saying the same thing, but why don’t you go and do it yourself? It’s your own matter, so don’t go leaving it to others, okay?
